Man Utd Eyeing the ‘Next Mbappe’ Alongside Gyokeres and Osimhen

Man Utd Eyeing the 'Next Mbappe' Alongside Gyokeres and Osimhen

Manchester United have looked at a potential summer move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, journalist Ben Jacobs has told The United Stand.

The Red Devils have reportedly earmarked the French starlet as a potential alternative in their striker search, alongside their top target Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon.

Ekitike has no shortage of Premier League suitors after his breakout season in Germany, with both Liverpool and Chelsea also holding admiration for the 22-year-old attacker.

Frankfurt, who signed Ekitike permanently from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, are said to be demanding an eye-watering fee for the Frenchman, which currently stands at €100m (£84m).

Jacobs, speaking to the United Stand, revealed that Man United still view Gyokeres as a priority and would like to advance on his pursuit amid their interest in Ekitike:

“They’re running data on some other names as well, including Hugo Ekitike, which is a new name that I can bring to the mix too.

“Liverpool are very interested, Chelsea have held some talks as well, but nothing’s going to happen in the next days with Hugo Ekitike either and Frankfurt want €100million, so he’s actually more expensive than Viktor Gyokeres.

“So right now, I’m told, if Manchester United can do Gyokeres, they would like to advance on it, but it will all depend on the overall cost and other suitors, and that’s why some of these other names are also concurrently being discussed.”

Ekitike has enjoyed a breakout campaign at Frankfurt, scoring 22 goals and providing 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions this season.

The 22-year-old forward, once called the ‘next Mbappe’, could soon bring Frankfurt a hefty profit, having joined from PSG last year for a reported fee of €35m (£30m).

Man United have sealed a move for Matheus Cunha to become their first summer signing and are aiming to bring in two more new forwards, including a versatile player to operate behind the striker.

The Red Devils are now in advanced talks for Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo, who is believed to be giving priority to a summer move to Old Trafford.
