Spanish football rewards patience. A lot of La Liga games are tight, tactical and settled by one goal, and the bookmakers know it. This page has our tips for the coming round, each with the odds we took, and a full record of how our previous La Liga picks finished.
How La Liga is different
For years the story of the league was two or three clubs a long way ahead of everyone else. The gap has narrowed a little, but the top sides still win most of their home games, and that's where a lot of our straight win tips come from.
Lower down, it's a different league. Mid-table teams in Spain tend to keep the ball, defend deep and accept a draw. A 1-0 or 0-0 between two of those sides is normal, which is why we rarely tip over 2.5 goals in those games and lean on double chance instead.
Two more things we watch:
- Heat and early kick-offs. Afternoon games in the south in August and September are slow. Fewer goals, more draws.
- The week of a Champions League game. Spanish clubs in Europe rotate their squads, especially for away league games.
How we choose our La Liga tips
We start with the fixtures where one side has a clear edge: better form, a stronger home record and no big absences. Then we pick the safest line that still pays something. Most tips on this page are 1X, X2 or a home win at odds between 1.10 and 1.45.
We skip derbies more often than not. The Seville, Madrid and Basque derbies don't follow form, and a red card or a penalty can flip them. If we do tip one, it's usually double chance.
Kick-off times
From late October to late March, Spain and Nigeria are on the same clock, so a 21:00 kick-off in Madrid is 21:00 in Lagos. In summer Spain is an hour ahead. The times on this page are always in WAT.
