Porto vs Napoli prediction and match preview

Porto and Napoli meet at the Estádio do Dragão on Wednesday 4 November with a lot riding on it. Porto are bottom-but-two in the Champions League table without a point, and Napoli have only three. Both need a win, and both have shown they can score. Here’s our Porto vs Napoli prediction.

Table before kick-offNapoli 22nd (3 pts), Porto 34th (0 pts)
Our tipBoth teams to score, over 1.5 goals

Two different Portos

At home in Portugal, Porto look like a team in control. They beat Benfica 3-1 in September, won 2-1 at Marítimo and 1-0 at Gil Vicente, and put four past Estoril on Friday without conceding.

In Europe it’s been a different story: three games, three defeats. They lost 2-0 at home to Manchester City, 3-2 at Real Betis and 1-0 at home to PSV. Two goals in three games is the real worry. This is a must-win game for them if they want to stay in the race for the knockout play-off places, and a team in that position at home usually comes out swinging.

Napoli: goals at both ends

Napoli’s games are rarely dull. They drew 3-3 with Roma, beat Bodø/Glimt 4-3 in the Champions League and won 4-1 at Monza. But they arrive after a 2-0 defeat at Juventus on Sunday, and the defence has let them down before: they lost 3-1 at Villarreal and 1-0 at home to Arsenal in Europe, and 1-0 at Venezia in Serie A.

In their last six games, Napoli have conceded 13 goals. Combine that with Porto’s need to attack and it’s hard to see a quiet night.

Head-to-head

The clubs have only met in a competitive tie once, in the last 16 of the 2013-14 Europa League. Porto won 1-0 at home and drew 2-2 in Naples to go through. So the Dragão has been a good place for Porto against Napoli, though with very different squads.

How the game could go

Porto will press high and try to use their home crowd early. Napoli have the quality to hurt them on the break, and both defences have shown cracks in Europe this autumn. We see both teams scoring, and the side that handles the pressure better probably takes the points.

A Porto win wouldn’t surprise us given their league form at home, but their European results make it hard to back them outright. We’d rather side with goals than with either team.

Team news

Porto: Vasco Sousa is out, and William Gomes (ankle) is unlikely to be fit. Winger Oskar Pietuszewski is a doubt after missing Saturday’s 4-0 win over Estoril with a thigh problem. There’s better news at right-back, where Martim Fernandes is expected back after missing the weekend with tonsillitis.

Napoli: Napoli’s injury list is long, and most of it is in defence. Benoît Badiashile and Leonardo Spinazzola were hurt in the 3-3 draw with Roma, and Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Mathías Olivera both picked up muscle injuries in Sunday’s defeat at Juventus; neither is expected to play. Stanislav Lobotka (ankle), David Neres and Alisson Santos are also out. Kevin De Bruyne has a slight ankle sprain but is expected to start, while striker Rasmus Højlund is a doubt after a bout of flu.

A back line missing that many regulars is a big part of why we expect goals at both ends. Porto need a win and should create chances against it.

Confirmed line-ups are released about an hour before kick-off.

Our prediction and tips

  • Main tip: Both teams to score (GG). Napoli have conceded 13 in six and are missing several defenders, and Porto will attack at home.
  • Goals: Over 1.5. Five of Napoli’s last six games had at least two goals.
  • Correct score: 1-1, with 2-1 to Porto as the alternative. Treat correct scores as a small-stakes bet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time is Porto vs Napoli?

Wednesday 4 November 2026 at 21:00 WAT (20:00 in Ghana, 22:00 in South Africa, 23:00 in Kenya).

Have Porto and Napoli played each other before?

Yes, in the 2013-14 Europa League last 16. Porto won 1-0 at home, drew 2-2 in Naples and went through 3-2 on aggregate.

Why not back a winner?

Porto are strong at home in Portugal but have lost all three Champions League games, and Napoli are good going forward but leaky at the back, even more so with their defensive injuries. That makes the goals markets safer than either result.
